In 2009, a bioengineer, a biophysicist, and a biochemist came together with an optimistic idea that through biotechnological innovation, they could change the world. They founded Bolt Threads with the goal to develop better materials for a better world.

Dan is fascinated by finding the right conditions to grow things. Dan has carefully tended Bolt’s growth since 2009, using his passion and expertise to lead the company through technology development, expansion, and financing. He earned his Ph.D. in Chemistry and Chemical Biology from UC San Francisco, where his graduate research involved designing genetic circuits to control microbial organelles.
David leads technology innovation at Bolt, creating and incubating biomaterials for improved consumer products. His obsession with biomaterials began with graduate research on silk during his Bioengineering Ph.D. at UC Berkeley and UCSF. David has an orange belt in Krav Maga and is a great admirer of stencil graffiti.
Cintia holds an engineering degree from UCA and brings more than 25 years of leadership experience with some of the world’s most respected beauty and consumer brands, including Unilever, Estée Lauder, and Cosmetica. Her background spans a wide range of functions—supply chain, operations, engineering, sales & marketing, and product development—giving her a deep understanding of how to bring big ideas to life and successfully take them to market.
As President of Bolt Threads, she is responsible for translating the company’s vision into action—leading strategy, execution, and growth across the business. Her role is about connecting the dots between people, processes, and purpose, ensuring Bolt is positioned to meet its goals and make a lasting impact in the materials space.
Cintia is passionate about building strong, agile teams and fostering a culture that’s collaborative, customer-focused, and driven by curiosity. She is committed to delivering exceptional products, outstanding service, and meaningful impact—for our shareholders, our partners, and the planet.
Randy oversees Bolt’s finance function, using his creative analysis of details to forecast, finance, and determine strategy for the business. He brings over 20 years of experience in finance and investment, most recently as Chief Financial Officer of Eventbrite where he helped to guide the company through a successful IPO. Prior to that, Randy served as Director of Research, analyst, and portfolio manager at Legg Mason Capital Management for 15 years. He lives in Larkspur, California with his wife, two kids, two cats, and one dog, plus the occasional visit from a clever family of raccoons.
Paul is an experienced General Counsel specializing in highly regulated, multinational startups in the growth and go-public phases. He brings an emphasis on tech and IP-driven strategies and their intersections with regulators. He previously litigated from Quinn Emanuel Urquhart & Sullivan LLP’s Los Angeles office for eight years in patent, commercial, antitrust, trade secret, class action, and consumer protection law. He received his JD from Yale Law School and bachelor’s degrees from Duke University. He lives in Redwood City, CA with his spouse and unusually large chihuahua.
